1st Thursday Class | Otherwise Jam

For over a year we have been consistent with the format of hosting a class the first week of the month and hosting a jam all other weeks. Classes are taughtby experienced dancers and last the full 2 hours.

Synapsis is a performance collective that has been active in Humboldt County for over 15 years and has a rich history in the local CI scene. Recently they worked to renovate a historic theatre on Union Street in Eureka. This space is beautiful and great for dancing with a wood floor full of character.

Also in the hall on Thursday nights on the stage a figure drawing group practices. The soundscape varries week to week as sometimes they play records and sometimes we currate the sound. The dancefloor is somewhat heated, but dancing in layers is advised.

Our weekly jams and classes are notaflof (no one turned away for lack of funds) but we do appreciate contributions. Offering $5-15 to attend a jam is very appropriate and is encouraged. Also paying your teacher is good form.

This summer we return to dancing in the historic upstairs gym of the Arcata Presbyterian Church. Roughly every other weekend Jeffrey will host a jam or workshop. Dates and times will be listed and updated on this website. Updates and discussion of these events is found on the Signal thread.

To find the space: The Arcata Presbyterian Church is a large unique yellow building on the north east corner of 11th and G streets. Enter through the Todd Room Door. This is the second door furthest uphill on the West side of the church (G street). Upon entering immediately on the left is another door leading to a flight of stairs. Go up the stairs and the gym will be on your left.
